Shakopee is located southwest of downtown Minneapolis, in Scott County and is located on south bank of the Minnesota River.  It is part of the 13th largest metropolitan area in the United States, the suburbs of St Paul and Minneapolis, which 3.5 million people call home.  Shakopee has a population just over 37,000 people.

Shakopee has a history dating back to the 17th century when the Mdewakanton Dakota established a village on the east end.  It was trading that create the city’s establishment, during the 19th century and soon thereafter Shakopee emerged as a booming commerce exchange site between river and rail at Murphy’s landing.

Currently the city is known for the area’s largest attractions, Valleyfair amusement park, the Canterbury park race horse track.
